Team Notes
- St. John's improved to 9-1, matching its best record through the first 10 games since 2009-10.
- The Red Storm held Saint Mary's to 47 points, the lowest for a St. John's opponent so far this season. Saint Mary's had been averaging 75.6 points per game entering tonight.
- The Red Storm held Saint Mary's to season-low 35.3 percent from the field, below the Gaels' season average of 46.8 percent.
- St. John's had only eight turnovers tonight, its second straight game with fewer than eight turnovers and third such game this season.
- The Red Storm trailed at the half for the fourth time this season, improving to 3-1 in such contests. The 15-point halftime deficit was St. John's largest of the season.
- St. John's won for the first time this season when scoring less than 66 points.
- The Red Storm held the Gaels backcourt of Kerry Carter and Aaron Bright to nine points on 2-of-13 shooting. Carter and Bright entered Friday averaging a combined 18.4 points per game.
- Though Saint Mary's forward Brad Waldow finished with 26 points, he was the only Gaels player to score more than six. This marks the first time since Jan. 28, 2014 at Creighton that St. John's allowed only one opposing player to finish with double-figure points.
Individual Notes
- D'Angelo Harrison scored 21 points to reach the 20-point mark for the fourth-straight game. Harrison is averaging 23.3 points over that four-game stretch. Harrison now has 1,799 career points and trails Zendon Hamilton by 11 points for fifth on the St. John's all-time scoring list.
- Sir'Dominic Pointer finished with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and added 11 rebounds to secure his second double-double of the season. Pointer, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds against NJIT (Nov. 14), now has seven-career double-doubles.
- Joey De La Rosa made his first appearance as a member of the Red Storm and finished with two blocks and one board in 12 minutes.
- Chris Obekpa finished with eight points on 4-of-7 shooting and added seven rebounds. Obekpa is now averaging 7.3 points and 9.5 rebounds over the last four games.
