Harris Earns BIG EAST Player Of The Week Honors

QUEENS, N.Y. - After helping lead a St. John's offensive attack that scored 11.3 runs per game as part of a 3-1 week, Matt Harris has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. Harris joins Jarred Mederos as the second Red Storm player to garner BIG EAST Player of the Week accolades this season.
Harris batted .583 (7-for-12) with three multi-hit games, seven RBI and eight runs scored for the Red Storm. The first baseman had two doubles and two home runs to post a 1.250 slugging percentage, walked four times to add a .600 on-base percentage and also swiped two bases in two attempts.
The first baseman went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI in midweek action against Columbia before finishing 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in the series-opener against NYIT. Harris went 0-for-0 in the second game against the Bears, but had an RBI, walked three times, scored three runs and stole a base. The junior capped the weekend by going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Harris currently leads the BIG EAST in RBI (34), ranks second in home runs (5), fifth in runs scored (34) and slugging percentage (.496), ninth in batting average (.326) and 10th in on-base percentage (.414).
St. John's returns to action on April 25 with a 6 p.m. neutral-site game against Boston College at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn. Please note that the game has been pushed back one hour from its originally-scheduled 5 p.m. first pitch time.
