Mederos Garners BIG EAST Player Of The Week Accolades

QUEENS, N.Y. - Following an eight-RBI week that helped lead St. John's to a 3-2 record, junior shortstop Jarred Mederos has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week.
Mederos batted .471 (8-for-17) with three multi-hit games and a pair of multi-RBI games to go with five runs scored. The shortstop had one double and one home run to post a .706 slugging percentage, and also drew four walks to add a .571 on-base percentage.
In three conference games, Mederos batted .600 (6-for-10) with five RBI and a pair of multi-hit games to go with three runs. In addition to posting a .700 slugging percentage in conference action, Mederos recorded a .692 on-base percentage.
Mederos went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, a walk and two runs scored to begin his week. The shortstop opened BIG EAST play by going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored before finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI and two walks in the second game of the weekend. Mederos then capped the weekend by going 3-for-3 with three RBI, a double, a walk and two runs scored.
St. John's (17-13) returns to action and opens a four-game homestand with a midweek game against Columbia at 3 p.m. on April 8. The game will be carried live on ESPN3.
