QUEENS, N.Y. - On Tuesday, Sept. 23, St. John's University's Department of Student Development for Athletes held a Faculty Coach Reception in the Belson Suite at Belson Stadium. The reception was an opportunity for student-athletes to meet and interact with various faculty members outside of the classroom while taking in the sights and sounds of a Red Storm men's soccer game against visiting rival Connecticut.
This year's reception featured opening remarks by Director of Academic Support Services Eric Rienecker while women's golf senior and President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Brittany Hurst spoke on behalf of the Red Storm student-athlete population and thanked faculty members and administrators for their support and encouragement. Campus Minister for Athletics Fr. Richard Rock delivered concluding remarks including a blessing for the University's athletic and academic community.
The Faculty Coach events were reintroduced by the Department of Student Development for Athletes in the fall of 2005 as a way for the University's faculty to develop a better understanding of the student-athlete experience. Events include the Faculty Coach Reception, held each semester, and the Faculty Coach for a Day Program. Through these events and other efforts, Student Development for Athletes hopes to continue building relationships between St. John's faculty and student-athletes.
