St. John's Hosts Longtime Rival Seton Hall On BEDN

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's will look to move above .500 in the conference standings when they host longtime rival Seton Hall in a midweek match on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN). The Red Storm (13-8, 3-3 BIG EAST) will face the Pirates (9-10, 3-4 BIG EAST) at 7 p.m. on Oct. 14.

SCOUTING SETON HALL (9-10, 3-4 BIG EAST)
- Last weekend, Seton Hall went 1-1 in league play at home with a 3-0 victory against Butler and a 3-2 lost to Xavier.
- The Pirates have been very sound defensively as they are fourth in the BIG EAST in digs per set at 15.23 and fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.211).
- Leading the defense is junior Tessa Fournier, who currently is second in the conference in digs per set (4.75).
- Freshman Sophia Coffey runs the offense for the Pirates with a 663 assists on the season. Senior Amanda Hansen leads the team in total kills (195) and ranks sixth in the league in hitting percentage (.316) and eighth in points per set (3.43).
- Head coach Allison Yeager is in her fourth season with Seton Hall and ninth overall.
- Seton Hall leads the all-time series over St. John's by one (12-11), including winning both matches last season (10/1/14 and 10/30/14).
RED STORM SWEEPS PROVIDENCE ON THE ROAD
- The Red Storm (13-8, 3-3 BIG EAST) got its seventh sweep of the season, and its first in league play after defeating Providence (10-10, 1-5 BIG EAST), 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-15) on the road Saturday afternoon.
- St. John's defense proved to be the difference as the Red Storm held the Friars to a .031 attacking percentage while also forcing 25 errors.
- The Red Storm, who also is the BIG EAST leader in blocks, was again active at the net as they outblocked the Friars 11-5.
VILLANOVA DEFEATS ST. JOHN'S IN STRAIGHT SETS
- For the first time in conference play, St. John's (12-8, 2-3 BIG EAST) was defeated in straight sets.
- The Red Storm were unable to take a frame away from Villanova (14-4, 4-1 BIG EAST) as the Wildcats won, 3-0 (21-25, 16-25, 20-25) on Wednesday night in Carnesecca Arena. With the victory, the Wildcats now lead the all-time series 14-12.
- Senior Karin Palgutova finished with 10 kills, five blocks and service aces two.

- With 2.65 blocks per set, St. John's leads the BIG EAST and 29th in the NCAA.
- With 1.43 blocks per set, Danisha Moss leads the BIG EAST and 21st in the NCAA.
- With 292 total kills, Palgutova ranks second in the BIG EAST and tied for 29th in the NCAA.
- With 710 total assists, Deniz Mutlugil ranks third in the BIG EAST.
- With 3.89 kills per set, Palgutova ranks second in the BIG EAST.
- With 4.40 points per set, Palgutova ranks third in the BIG EAST.
- With a .318 hitting percentage, Julia Cast ranks fourth in the BIG EAST.
