UNCASVILLE, Conn. -
Head Coach Chris Mullin on the team's free throw shooting:
"Those things happen. You just have to keep shooting them. We shoot them a whole bunch. What did we make a 100 yesterday? So we do a lot of repetition and carry-over to the game is just one of those things. I think the last thing you want to do is overemphasize it. If they just keep working at them, they'll make them."
On South Carolina's first-half run and his team's effort:
"[South Carolina] is a good team and there are going to be runs like that. Overall tonight I was happy with our effort and our energy. There were some areas [that need work], missed some open threes and a lot of free throws obviously, but overall I think that effort and energy will win us some games."
On whether he reflects on the team's effort this past weekend:
"No, I really don't look backwards. We need to learn to bring it every night. It is part of this learning and building process, so the only way you can see the difference is to go through it. I would say the same for missing and making free throws or making turnovers. Any successful athlete will tell you, you go through that process and the ones that hang in there, they're the ones that become good and the ones that give up, you never hear from them again."
On why his team has played so well against its best opposition this year:
"Probably because we have nine young guys and each and every day is a new experience for them."
Graduate Student Durand Johnson on whether he will take positives from tonight's game:
"Definitely. We have a group of good guys. We all played with energy tonight. We played hard and like Coach said, if we leave our energy out there, we can live with everything after that."
On his team's effort from the charity stripe tonight:
"We just have to get better every day. We shoot free throws every day in practice and they'll start to go in. I don't know what it is, but every day is another day to get better at it, so that's what we have to do."
