Red Storm Drops Five Set Thriller to Xavier

QUEENS, N.Y. - For the second straight night, the St. John's volleyball team played a thrilling five set match on the road against a BIG EAST opponent. The Red Storm traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Xavier Musketeers (6-6, 2-0 BIG EAST), dropping the match 3-2 (25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 13-15) at the Cintas Center on Saturday night.
The Musketeers rallied to beat St. John's (11-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) after the Red Storm took a commanding 2-0 lead behind strong play from Deniz Mutlugil and Margherita Bianchin.
Mutlugil, a senior setter, recorded her fourth double-double on the year with 57 assists and 16 digs. Bianchin added 17 kills (.326) and has now scored at least 10 kills in the last two games.
Again senior outside hitter Karin Palgutova led the Red Storm attack with a team-high 19 kills (.214) and nine digs.
