QUEENS, N.Y. - After a 1-1 week for the Red Storm, which included two five-set matches, freshman Gaia Traballi was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for the first time in her career, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Facing a Villanova squad that made the NCAA Tournament last season, Traballi led the Red Storm offense with 18 kills and just missed a double-double with nine digs.
The next day, the Johnnies battled with Georgetown in their final regular season home game in another match that went the distance. The rookie recorded her sixth double-double of the season on 12 digs and 11 kills against the Hoyas. St. John's was trailing 11-7 in the final frame, but Traballi led the Red Storm to a comeback victory picking up three kills during an 8-1 run for the Johnnies to close the match.
For the week, Traballi averaged 3.35 points, 2.90 kills and 2.10 digs per set and has now reached the double-digit kill mark in five of her past seven matches.
The Milano, Lombardia, Italy, has been stellar on both sides of the ball this season, as she tops the squad in both kills and digs. Traballi is averaging more than three kills per set, while also adding over two digs per set during her rookie campaign.
Next up, St. John's heads to the Midwest for its final road trip of the season when the Red Storm visits DePaul for a matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. The following day, the Johnnies will play Marquette at the Al McGuire Center for a 2 p.m. showdown.
