St. John's Head Coach Chris Mullin...
On injury playing a factor:
"Injuries happen so give all the credit to LIU. They took it to us from the start. They went up 18-7 and pretty much controlled the whole game. Even when we had a seven point lead, we got sloppy again and didn't take care of the ball."
On the play of Darien Williams:
"Darien was phenomenal. If we didn't have him in the first half, we would've been down 20. I asked everyone to match his intensity, energy and efficiency, but we couldn't do that."
On reinforcing the energy level and what it takes to win:
"Knowing it and being able to do it on a consistent basis is [different]. Everyone can do it once in awhile but the good ones do it all the time. We're not on that level yet."
Freshman Guard Shamorie Ponds...
On the energy level:
"We didn't carry any of the energy over that we had in the past couple of games. We came out too nonchalant and flat."
On the last play:
"It was a great play [call] by coach. I have to take us home on that."
On the mindset when the team took the seven-point lead in the second half:
"We came out dead but when we took that seven point lead, our energy picked up but we didn't continue to play like we played."
On returning home to Brooklyn:
"It felt good to be back home, but I just wanted to come out with a win [and we didn't today]."
LIU Brooklyn Head Coach Jack Perri...
Opening Statement:
"That was an exciting game. Tremendous job by our guys; I was just so proud of our guys. We were really able to sustain things pretty well to keep that game close. We started out pretty well, but in the second half it looked like could go the other way when they were up seven. [Iverson Fleming] hit a big three and calmed us down a little bit and then we had to make big plays down the stretch. [Iverson Fleming] made some huge plays; the pull-up three obviosily and the double-clutch shot late in the shot clock was awesome and to win on the defensive end, where we put so much time and effort every day in practice, was gratifying for us."
