QUEENS, N.Y. - After setting career-highs in both strikeouts and innings pitched in a save against then-No. 9 Florida State, Thomas Hackimer has been selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Hackimer racked up seven strikeouts in a 3.2-inning save as part of a 5-1 victory for the Red Storm in the series-finale against the Seminoles (March 6). The reliever surrendered just two singles in holding FSU to a .167 batting average.
After entering with a 3-1 lead and runners on first and second with one out in the sixth, Hackimer got out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts. The Preseason BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year added two strikeouts in the seventh, two more in the eighth and one in the ninth.
The performance against the Seminoles marked the second-career save of at least 3.0 innings for Hackimer, who previously recorded a 3.0-inning save against Butler on April 12, 2014.
Hackimer leads the BIG EAST and ranks tied for 15th in the country with 13.50 strikeouts per nine innings.
St. John's returns to action on March 8 with a 3 p.m. road game against local foe Iona.
