Demel And Rusch Represent St. John's At BIG EAST SAAC Summer Meeting

QUEENS, N.Y. - Red Storm volleyball student-athlete Hope Demel and softball student-athlete Alyssa Rusch were two of 18 representatives from the BIG EAST Conference who attended the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) summer meeting in Chicago this past weekend.
The first event of the weekend was a meeting with BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman as well as other various speakers. The following day, the SAAC representatives met with former BIG EAST student-athletes for a panel discussion to talk about their own experiences.
The weekend concluded with a community service initiative in which the SAAC student-athletes played basketball, soccer and other sports with athletes from the Chicago Special Olympics athletes at Haas Park.
The annual SAAC meeting is to promote a positive student-athlete image and to improve communication amongst the other student-athletes. This committee also involves receiving feedback on NCAA legislation while promoting student-athlete personal development and community service.
