St. John’s Suffers Setback at Villanova, 4-0

Red Storm will conclude its 2026 campaign tomorrow
VILLANOVA, Pa. — The St. John's softball team dropped game two of a three-game BIG EAST series to Villanova, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Villanova Softball Complex.
Ana Serafinko and Madison Konopka each recorded a hit for the Red Storm (32-22, 9-14 BIG EAST) in the setback. In the circle, Loreley Francia went the distance, striking out four to register her 11th complete game of the season.
Villanova struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, using a two-out rally to take a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats carried their lead into the third as both sides were retired in order in the second inning.
St. John's threatened in the top of the third, picking up its first hit of the contest on a two-out single to right field from Konopka, but were unable to bring a run across.
The Wildcats responded with a single of their own in the home half, but Francia worked around the baserunner to keep the deficit at 1-0 heading into the fourth.
The Johnnies threatened again in the top of the fourth inning after Serafinko roped a two-out double to right center, but the Red Storm was unable to capitalize. In the bottom of the inning, Francia again shut down Villanova in order to hold the hosts' advantage to 1-0.
St. John's extended pressure in the top of the fifth after Cassidy Stouffer was hit by a pitch and Makenna Meadows reached on a fielding error before the two runners were left stranded.
Villanova added to its advantage in the home half, placing a runner on base behind a left field single before advancing on sacrifice bunt. An RBI single later added to the Wildcats' lead, increasing their edge to 2-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Red Storm was retired in order before Villanova doubled its lead behind a two-RBI single to left field, 4-0.
The Red Storm mounted a late attack in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs after earning three consecutive walks, but was unable to push a run across as a strikeout ended the game.
St. John's will be back in action to close out its 2026 season in the series finale against Villanova tomorrow. First pitch from Villanova Softball Complex is set for 12 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+, with live stats available on RedStormSports.com.
