QUEENS, N.Y. - After recording his second shutout in as many games on Saturday night against Marquette, Andrew Withers has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this afternoon by the conference office. The selection marks the first such honor of Withers' St. John's career.
Withers, a redshirt sophomore, recorded three saves in the Red Storm's lone game last week, registering a clean sheet for the second-consecutive contest. Withers' biggest stop came in the opening minutes of the second overtime period, as he turned away a try from Marquette freshman Luka Prpa that appeared destined for the upper right corner of the cage.
The owner of two solo shutouts on the season, Withers has also been a part of two combined scoreless efforts alongside Michael Bernardi.
Logging 110 minutes of perfect play in Milwaukee, Withers improved upon his already stellar season-long numbers, dropping his goals against average to 0.24 and bumping his save percentage to 91.7 percentage. The Wellington, New Zealand, native now ranks third in the NCAA in both of those categories.
Withers and the Red Storm return to action tomorrow night, welcoming Quinnipiac to Belson Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
