QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2020) – Exemplifying the excellence and standout character of Red Storm student-athletes, three Johnnies were welcomed as members of the prestigious St. John's University President's Society on Monday.
Amanda Belgrave of Women's Track & Field, Kayley Wood of Volleyball and Matthew Kirschenheiter of the St. John's Dance Team were part of this year's distinguished list of inductees.
The President's Society was founded in 1968 and serves as the highest honor society at St. John's University. The society honors students who combine scholarship, integrity, maturity and a well-rounded personality with University-wide awareness, participation and leadership. Inductees also display significant contributions to the academic, co-curricular and extracurricular life of St. John's. Members of the President's Society are considered to be a part of the president's support staff.
Belgrave, a junior long jumper on the women's track & field team, is a finance major who has been a member of the Red Storm's Honors Program since 2018. In 2019, she began serving as a Student-Development Athlete Peer Leader and closed out the year by earning a selection to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. Belgrave continues to put her efforts toward helping other students on campus as a mentor for St. John's E.P.I.C. and Student and Faculty Engagement (SAFE) programs.
Wood, a senior outside hitter on the women's volleyball team, has continued to lead by example both on the court and in the classroom, earning three straight selections to the All-BIG EAST Academic Team. The marketing major was inducted into the National College Athlete Society in 2020, Chi Alpha Sigma. She has been selected to the Tobin College of Business Dean's list for the last three years while also helping give back to the community by volunteering at the St. Nick's Overnight Shelter and the Boys and Girls Club. Wood visits the Conroe House of Prayer shelter once a month when she returns home to The Woodlands, Texas, to help feed the area's homeless community.
Kirschenheiter, a senior member of St. John's 2020 National-Champion Dance Team, plans to graduate from the University this May with a degree in Childhood Education. Kirschenheiter embodies the Red Storm spirit and embraces his leadership role as a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). He also earned a spot on the Dean's Honor list for the last three years at St. John's.
