FitBiomics will serve as the official probiotic of St. John’s Athletics and offers Name, Image and Likeness opportunities to all Red Storm student-athletes
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Athletics and LEARFIELD have announced the beginning of a new partnership between the University and FitBiomics to become the official probiotic of the Red Storm.
FitBiomics was founded by former Red Storm men's basketball player Jonathan Scheiman, Ph.D., who made 27 appearances during his four year career from 1999-2003 before moving onto graduate school at New York University and postdoctoral work at Harvard. A New York City native, Scheiman went to two NCAA Tournaments during his time at St. John's and was a member of the 2000 BIG EAST Championship as well as the 2003 National Invitation Tournament Championship teams.
"We're working with elite athletes, some of the most fit people in the world," said Scheiman during a recent on-campus presentation to the St. John's men's and women's basketball teams. "We're understanding what makes them distinct from a biological perspective. We're decoding that information and then translating that into next generation nutrition."
In addition to FitBiomic's overarching partnership with the athletic department, Scheiman has also presented Red Storm student-athletes with the chance to serve as social media brand ambassadors, allowing current St. John's student-athletes to make the most of opportunities afforded by recent changes in legislation concerning name, image and likeness.
"As a former college basketball player, I am excited to offer NIL opportunities to my fellow student-athletes at St. John's," said Scheiman.
"We're thrilled to be officially partnered with Jonathan and his team of incredibly talented individuals at FitBiomics," said Director of Athletics Mike Cragg. "Jonathan and I have been in contact for a number of years now and it's exciting to begin working with him in an official capacity. He's a shining example of what student-athletes can become and we hope that his work will inspire our next generation of student-athlete success stories on and off the court."
Nella, the first product from FitBiomics, is available for order now.
