The right-side hitter posted a double-double in the upset win over No. 16 Creighton
QUEENS, N.Y.- After helping the Red Storm knock off No. 16 Creighton on Friday night, senior right-side hitter Rachele Rastelli has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday.
Rastelli was a major factor in the Red Storm's signature win over the Bluejays on both sides of the ball. The Parma, Italy, native tallied 22 kills and 10 digs to earn a double-double, her fourth of the season and her first of conference play. The senior also added three service aces, which accounted for 60 percent of the Johnnies' total in that category.
Rastelli continued her solid play in St. John's hard-fought battle against Providence on Saturday. In four tightly contested sets, Rastelli racked up 17 kills to lead the Red Storm attack. The right-side hitter also assisted on three blocks and tallied eight digs against the Friars.
Rastelli currently ranks fourth in the country in total kills with 280. She also leads the BIG EAST in kills, points per set and points. Rastelli is the only player in the BIG EAST with a kills per set average over 4.00.
This marks Rastelli's second weekly conference honor this season and the fourth of her career. Rastelli was also honored before Friday's game against Creighton for reaching the 1,000-kill mark in her career.
St. John's will return to the court on Friday, Oct. 8, when it travels to historic Hinkle Fieldhouse to take on Butler.
