QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 1, 2021) – For the second time in as many weeks, Rachele Rastelli has been chosen as the BIG EAST's Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Rastelli has been honored by the conference every week since Oct. 4 and seven times overall this season. The Parma, Italy, native has been named Offensive Player of the Week four times since play began in August.
The senior right-side hitter notched an impressive 35-kill game on Friday in a five-set match against Georgetown. The achievement marked the first time a St. John's student-athlete logged 35 or more kills since Jackie Ahlers hit 35 in 2004. Rastelli is currently first in the BIG EAST and fifth in the nation for single-game kills in a five-set match this season.
Along with her 35 kills, Rastelli also recorded a .453 hitting percentage, seven block assists and one service ace. The following day, she hit 18 kills on a .234 clip along with two rejections and a service ace against Villanova.
On the national level, Rastelli is ranked within the top 30 in five different categories. She leads the conference in kills and ranks fifth nationally with 421 total kills. The only BIG EAST player to record more than 4.00 kills per set, she currently sits in 16th place with 4.53 kills per set.
Overall this season, Rastelli has recorded double-digit kills in 23 of her 26 appearances, including seven matches with more than 20 kills and two 30-kill matches.
