Oluwaseyi earns first team nod, Lye and Knapp find spots on third team
Following the conclusion of the spring 2021 regular season, three members of the St. John's men's soccer team have been named to All-BIG EAST Teams, it was announced this afternoon by the conference office.Â
Â
The 2019 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Tani Oluwaseyi, was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the second time in as many opportunities.  Fellow juniors Brandon Knapp and Einar Lye were both named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team for the second consecutive season.
Â
The first St. John's standout in more than two decades to be named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, Oluwaseyi was once again impressive in limited spring action this season. The Mississauga, Ont., native scored five goals and dished out three assists in nine appearances, including his second career brace against Stony Brook on Feb. 23. Four of Oluwaseyi's five goals were game-winners. At the conclusion of the regular season, Oluwaseyi ranks inside the top five of the BIG EAST in points (13- 4th), goals (5- 4th) and shots (26-5th).
Â
Knapp, a versatile talent who excels at multiple positions on the pitch, never stepped off the field for St. John's during the spring 2021 campaign, playing 907 out of a possible 907 minutes. He was one of only two St. John's players to appear in all 10 contests and the only Johnnie to start all 10. Knapp recorded one helper on the campaign, assisting on Oluwaseyi's game-winner against Saint Joseph's in the season opener. Whether in the midfield or on the backline, Knapp played an integral part in a Red Storm defensive unit that tallied four shutouts and a 0.89 goals against average this spring. As a sophomore captain in 2019, Knapp logged four goals and an assist for the 14-win Red Storm.
Â
Lye, who posted five goals and five assists as a first-year sophomore in 2019, tallied two goals and two assists for the Johnnies this spring. Both of Lye's markers came on successful penalty kick attempts, as he beat the keeper against both Stony Brook on Feb. 23 and UConn on March 20. His goal against the Huskies proved to be the game-winner. Lye also picked up an assist against the Huskies on March 3 in Queens before dishing out another on March 17 against Seton Hall. Â
