St. John’s Rolls to 4-0 Exhibition Victory over LIU

Red Storm scores four second-half goals in first win of the preseason
The St. John's men's soccer team scored all four of its goals during the second half of a 4-0 exhibition victory over LIU on Monday night at Belson Stadium.
Neither side mustered up much offense during the first 45 minutes of play. St. John's controlled possession for a majority of the opening stanza, but held only a 2-0 advantage in shots at the intermission.
After halftime, St. John's immediately increased its intensity the attacking third.
Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau opened the scoring in the 51st minute, converting on a bicycle kick in front of the net following a Red Storm corner kick. Anthony Herbert and Ryan Dougherty picked up assists on the play.
Micaah Garnette pushed the Red Storm lead to a pair 16 minutes later, finding the back of the net from the right side following a skillful pass down the flank from Sanoussi Sangary.
In the 78th minute, Wesley Leggett controlled a headed ball from Luke Hansen and fired home an off-balance strike from the left of the cage.
The Red Storm was not done yet, as Shawn Coles drew a penalty kick in the 85th minute and promptly converted the opportunity, making it a 4-0 game in favor of the Johnnies.
The final shot tally was 15-1 in favor of the Red Storm.
Luka Gavran and Emmanuel Smalios combined for the clean sheet in goal.
St. John's will wrap the exhibition portion of its schedule on Friday night when the squad travels to Philadelphia for a preseason tilt with Temple.
