The Red Storm will compete in the game-day, hip-hop and jazz categories
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's dance team will travel to Orlando this weekend to take part in the Universal Dance Association National Championships.
The three-day competition, which begins on Friday, will take place at Walt Disney World Resort after being held virtually in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are thrilled to be back at the live competition after competing virtually last year," said head coach Christine McCarton. "The team has been working incredibly hard this season to perfect all three routines. Our team has many new team members who have never competed at nationals, but we are excited for their first opportunity to entertain the judges."
The Red Storm will look to win its fourth title in the last six years after winning two hip hop championships in 2020 and 2016 and taking first in the game-day category in 2018. Last year, while competing virtually in Carnesecca Arena, Coach McCarton's team finished second in the hip-hop category.
The Johnnies will begin the hip hop and jazz portions of the competition on Saturday, Jan. 15 with the final round commencing on Sunday, Jan. 16. Fans can watch live at the organization's website.
