Anonymous St. John’s supporter will match up to $1 million in donations
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's Athletic Department announced on Wednesday that an anonymous donor has committed to matching up to $1 million in contributions to The Red Storm Legacy Investment Fund before the end of the calendar year.
"We are so thankful to this loyal donor for their support of our student-athletes over the past several years," said Athletic Director Ed Kull. "We would certainly not occupy the position that we do in the revenue sharing space without their support. We hope that this commitment inspires similar generosity throughout the fanbase, as we continue to rally around our incredibly talented and deserving Johnnies."
St. John's launched The Red Storm Legacy Investment Fund this past June coinciding with the House v. NCAA settlement, which cleared the way for direct compensation of student-athletes by universities for use of their name, image and likeness beginning on July 1. At St. John's, this compensation is focused primarily on the Red Storm men's and women's basketball programs.
Donor contributions in support of revenue sharing through the Red Storm Legacy Investment Fund will be applied to Red White Club giving levels and subsequent benefits. Donations to the Red Storm Legacy Investment Fund are also tax deductible, as is any gift to St. John's University, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
