Giorgia Walther Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Walther earns her first BIG EAST award of her career
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2022) – For the first time in her career, Giorgia Walther has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon.
Walther earns her first-career selection as Offensive Player of the Week and third honor from the conference this season. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 10 and Sept. 26.
In a perfect 2-0 week for the Red Storm, Walther notched 31 kills and 15 digs and 3 service aces. Over the weekend, the sophomore led the BIG EAST averaging 5.21 points per set and ranked second in kills per frame (4.43). The Cannobio, Italy native weekend performance also ranked sixth in hitting percentage (.355) and seventh in service aces (0.43) in the conference.
On Wednesday night's match against Seton Hall, Walther recorded a match-high 24 kills which is the highest total by any BIG EAST player this season in four sets. Walther also tallied eight digs and a service ace in the contest.
Walther ranks in the top three of BIG EAST in two separate statistical categories, sitting second in kills per set (3.78) and third in points per set (4.22). She is also second in both categories in conference matches, kills (3.87) and points (4.43).
Going into the weekend, Walther ranked 12th nationally notching 303 kills, 15th in scoring with 335.5 points, and 39th in total attacks with 721. After the weekend, Walther totaled 310 kills, 346 points, 738 attacks, 97 digs, and 37.0 blocks this season
The Johnnies travel for a pair of weekend road matches starting with DePaul on Friday night.
