QUEENS, N.Y. – Following a win over DePaul in the team's BIG EAST opener and another double-digit victory over New Hampshire, St. John's senior center Joel Soriano has earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
It marks the third BIG EAST weekly honor for Soriano this season, as he previously was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and he was selected to the Honor Roll earlier this year.
In the pair of wins, Soriano averaged team-highs with 15.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks for the Red Storm. The 6-foot-11 center recorded a pair of double-doubles while shooting 58.8 percent (10-17 FG) from the field and 78.6 percent (11-14 FT) at the line.
The Yonkers native began the week with a 17-point, 14-rebound performance in an 86-67 victory over the Blue Demons. He followed it up with his NCAA-leading ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 boards against the Wildcats.
Soriano's nine double-doubles are the most in a single season since Justin Simon also tallied nine in the 2017-18 campaign.
St. John's returns to action Saturday when the Johnnies take on Florida State in the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Fla. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. The contest will air live on Bally Sports and locally on MSG Network.
