St. John’s to Face Florida State in Orange Bowl Basketball Classic

The Red Storm men’s basketball team takes on the Seminoles for the first time in program history on Saturday at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Fla.
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball team will wrap up non-conference action on Saturday in the Sunshine State, taking on Florida State as part of the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic in Sunrise, Fla. The Red Storm and Seminoles are the second game of a doubleheader at FLA Live Arena that also features Missouri and UCF.
St. John's (10-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) and Florida State (3-9, 1-1 ACC) tips at approximately 2:30 p.m. The contest will air live on Bally Sports Florida and locally on MSG Network. Bally Sports regional networks - Arizona, Detroit Extra, Great Lakes, Midwest Extra, North Extra, Southeast, Southwest Extra, West and Wisconsin Extra - will also carry the broadcast. Streams will be available at Ballysports.com and BallySportsPlus.com.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Brian Mahoney will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. St. John's radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 386 and channel 976 on the SiriusXM app.
The Red Storm is coming off consecutive double-digit wins over BIG EAST foe DePaul and New Hampshire last week. Joel Soriano led St. John's averaging 15.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in the two victories and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts.
This past Saturday, Soriano registered his NCAA-leading ninth double-double while David Jones scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 12 boards in a 13-point win against UNH. AJ Storr also shined for the Red Storm, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the second half. He knocked down 5-of-9 field goal attempts and shot 3-for-4 from distance.
St. John's enters its final non-conference test of the season boasting a 9-1 record against out-of-league opponents with the team's lone loss coming at then-No. 23 Iowa State. Saturday's matchup with Florida State will be the first meeting all-time between the two programs. The Johnnies have won three of its last four contests with ACC opponents, including a 76-69 overtime win earlier this season against Syracuse at Barclays Center to take home the 2022 Empire Classic title.
Florida State has also won its last two games, downing Louisville by 22 points on Saturday before defeating USC Upstate, 80-63, on Tuesday in Tallahassee. Matthew Cleveland, the reigning ACC Sixth Man of the Year, averaged 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds during the two-game home stretch. On the season, Cleveland, Darin Green Jr. and Caleb Mills have started all 12 games for the Seminoles and each average 12 points per game.
After Saturday's non-conference finale, the Johnnies wrap up a two-game road stretch at Villanova on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
