Joel Soriano Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

The Red Storm men’s basketball team’s senior center tallied a career-high 23 points to go with 12 boards in win over Florida State on Saturday
QUEENS, N.Y. – For the second-consecutive week, St. John's senior center Joel Soriano has landed a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.

It marks Soriano's third BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection this season. Soriano was also previously named the BIG EAST's Player of the Week on Nov. 28.

On Saturday in a 14-point win over Florida State, the Yonkers native posted a career-high 23 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field and 11-for-14 from the charity stripe. He also pulled down 12 boards and swatted a pair of shots for his NCAA-leading 10th double-double.

Soriano's 10 double-doubles this season are the most for a St. John's player since Moe Harkless  tallied 11 during the 2011-12 campaign. Soriano also leads the BIG EAST on the glass, posting 12.6 rebounds and 4.0 offensive boards per game, both of which rank inside the top-10 for Division I.

The Johnnies return to BIG EAST action on Wednesday at Villanova. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on FS1.
