St. John’s Hosts Providence for Final Home Game

Red Storm and Friars will battle at 1 p.m. on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2022) – St. John's women's basketball closes out its 2021-22 home slate with a battle against Providence at Carnesecca Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Tip-off on the BIG EAST Digital Network is slated for 1 p.m. with Pat O'Keefe and Mike Watts on the call.
St. John's will honor student managers Abby Yuan and Dan Vivolo, graduate assistant Vash Perry and guard Camree Clegg in a special Senior Day ceremony prior to tip. Clegg has spent two seasons with the program, playing in 49 games, so far, for the Red Storm.
Last time out, the Johnnies (10-16, 6-10 BIG EAST) fell to Creighton, 107-59, snapping a three-game conference winning streak. Danielle Cosgrove led the Red Storm in points with 12 as she sank 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. The forward also logged a team-high seven rebounds. For the opposition, six Bluejay players scored in double figures with Lauren Jensen and Emma Ronsiek leading the way, scoring 16 points each. Jayme Horan and Morgan Maly added 14 points off the bench. As a team, Creighton shot 62.7 percent from the floor and sank 20 3-pointers during the game.
On the season, Leilani Correa leads St. John's in scoring, as the junior averages 17.7 points per game. Kadaja Baliey follows closely behind with 14.1 points per outing. The senior is 31 points away from logging 1,000th points for her collegiate career. Ravyen Peeples paces the squad with 9.1 rebounds while Clegg averages a team high 3.4 assists.
Providence enters Sunday matinee at 11-15 this season with a 6-11 mark in conference play. As a team, the Friars average 61.5 points while shooting 40.8 percent from the field. Janai Crooms comes into the contest as the team's leading scorer, averaging 13.9 points this season. The Cranston, R.I., native is also the top rebounder on the squad, crashing the boards with 7.8 rebounds per game.
While the Johnnies lead the all-time series 43-32, the Friars won the first showdown this season, 56-49, at Alumni Hall on Jan. 14. Correa became the 27th St. John's women's basketball player to record 1,000 career points during the loss, scoring 13 total for the day. Bailey led the Red and White with 19 points, as the junior went 7-for-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from three. Peeples came away with a new career-high in rebounds when she tallied 14 boards. Mary Baskerville of Providence led all players with 20 points during the league game. The senior joined the Red Storm's Correa in recording her 1,000th career point during the contest.
