Canadian standout set to join the Red Storm in the fall
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball program has announced the addition of highly-touted Canadian high school prospect, Yohana Fami, to its 2026 recruiting class.
"We are excited about the addition of Yohana to our program," said Head Coach Joe Tartamella. "She is one of the top prospects coming out of Canada in the 2026 class. Her length and versatility fit exactly how we want to play on the offensive and defensive end of the floor. She is a hardworking blue-collar player that Johnny fans will love."
The incoming freshman joins the Red Storm from Royal Crown School in Ontario, where she helped lead her team to the 2026 Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) Championship. A 2025 OSBA First Team All-Star and 2024 Second Team All-Star selection, she established herself as one of the top players in Canada's premier high school league.
Her standout 2025 campaign also included earning MVP honors on the Grind Session circuit, where she guided Royal Crown to a championship title. In the final she delivered a strong all-around performance tallying 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
On the international level, she has represented Canada in multiple elite competitions. She competed at the 2024 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup, appearing in seven games averaging 6.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per contest. She also participated in the prestigious 2025 Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Americas Camp in El Salvador, where she averaged 6.0 points across five games while competing against top talent from across the region.
Additionally, she was selected to participate in the 2024 Nike Future Games and earned a spot in the 2026 All Canadian Games, further highlighting her status as one of the top emerging players in North America.
Fami joins Serenity Lancaster and Syvannah Dawson as the third member of the Red Storm's rookie class heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
