Red Storm midfielder becomes just the fourth player in program history to earn the academic honor
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- After a stellar career on the field and in the classroom, St. John's lacrosse midfielder Dylan Willis was tabbed a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-American.
The USILA announced its list of recipients on Monday, recognizing the top senior student-athletes in the nation for their academic and athletic performance. A student-athlete must be a senior in academic standing, maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be an All-American, Senior All-Star Game participant or all-conference selection to qualify for the prestigious award.
Willis is just the fourth player in program history to earn the honor joining- Aidan Marron (2019), Mark DiFrangia (2015) and Brian Bugge (1992). He was one of just 11 players in the BIG EAST to earn the honor this year.
The Baldwin, N.Y., native exuded excellence in the classroom during his time at St. John's. In May, he was one of seven Red Storm student-athletes to be named a 2022 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, an honor given to student-athletes of color who achieved academic and athletic success. A three-time All-BIG EAST Academic Team member, Willis graduated with his degree in finance last month and a 3.67 GPA.
On the field, Willis corralled just as many accolades as he was selected to play in the USILA Senior All-Star Game on May 27 in Providence. Over his career in Queens, the crafty midfielder appeared in 40 games and racked up 50 points, he tallied 31 during the 2022 campaign.
This past season, Willis was the Johnnies' lead facilitator dishing out a team-high 22 assists, a mark that ranked fifth in the conference. The team captain started all 14 games and registered three or more points in five contests. He exploded for a career-high seven points (2 G, 5 A) in a 17-14 victory at Fairfield on March 22.
