Red Storm will close its four-game homestand on Tuesday night against Princeton
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's soccer team suffered its first loss of BIG EAST play on Friday night, falling to Villanova, 4-0, at Belson Stadium.
The Wildcats (3-2-2, 1-0-1 BIG EAST) netted three of those goals in the opening half in a span of just 17 minutes. Gray Ricca scored first in the 24th minute before Lyam MacKinnon added another in the 31st. Viktor Benediktsson logged the half's final tally in the 41st minute.
Vincent Petrera added the Wildcats' fourth and final goal in the 75th minute.
MacKinnon and Petrera also added assists for the Wildcats, as did Balthi Saunders and Dominic Cyriacks.
Villanova outshot the Red Storm, 11-7, on the evening, marking just the second time this season that St. John's has recorded fewer tries than its opponent. Four of those St. John's shots came off the foot of Adrian Roseth. Einar Lye, Wesley Leggett and Nigel Griffith also added chances for the Red Storm (2-5-1, 1-1-0 BIG EAST).
The Johnnies will close out non-conference play on Tuesday night when they welcome Princeton to Belson Stadium. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on FloFC.
