QUEENS, N.Y.– St. John's women's tennis' doubles team of Jayden Nielsen and Yesica de Lucas have earned a spot in the 2022 ITA Women's All-American Championships.
The nation's top collegiate players will flock to Cary, N.C. for the championship event. The duo was placed into the qualifying draw which will begin on Monday Oct. 3. The bracket will feature 48 teams and the top six finishers will advance into the main draw.
"This event provides a high-level of competition and I'm excited that Jayden and Yesica have been selected to compete," Head Coach Lauren Leo said. "It's a well deserved opportunity."
Nielsen and de Lucas anchored the top doubles position last season, finishing with a dual match record of 12-3. In the fall of 2021, the pairing advanced to ITA Northeast Super Regionals as one of the 16-best doubles teams in the entire region.
The duo continued its electric chemistry at the start of the 2022-23 campaign winning both contests at the Lion Quad last weekend.
Nielsen and de Lucas are the first Red Storm players to compete in the event since Jessica Livianu in 2019. The three-time BIG EAST Player of the Year advanced to the final round of the qualifying draw in singles competition.
