Red Storm takes home two silver medals
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's dance and cheer teams concluded another successful year of competition at the UDA and UCA National Championships in Orlando, Fla., securing second place finishes in the game day and hip hop categories, respectively.
"I am so incredibly proud of this team for the resilience they have shown all season long," said Head Coach Christine McCarton. "No matter what obstacle was thrown their way, they continued to push forward to grow and learn as a team. I'm also so happy we had the chance to share the floor with our Cheer team this year. It was a great Nationals for the Johnnies!"
In the inaugural year of the cheer and dance competing together in the game day category, St. John's put together a solid performance, placing second and falling just 0.2 points short of a national championship.
The success continued in the hip hop category as the Red Storm grabbed its second silver medal of the competition to go along with its national titles in hip hop in 2020 and 2016, respectively. The Johnnies advanced to the final after finishing in the top spot in the semifinal round that featured 17 squads.
The St. John's dance team's next performance will be on Friday, when the men's basketball team takes on Villanova at Madison Square Garden.
