St. John’s and Madison Square Garden Entertainment Commence New York Stock Exchange Day with Opening Bell Ringing

Hall of Fame Head Coach Rick Pitino, the St. John’s men’s basketball team and MSG executives formally open NYSE on Tuesday
NEW YORK – The St. John's men's basketball team and Madison Square Garden Entertainment were warmly welcomed at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Tuesday. Red Storm Hall of Fame Head Coach Rick Pitino rang the NYSE's Opening Bell alongside University President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., players, coaches and MSG executives in celebration of the upcoming 2023-24 campaign.
The Opening Bell ceremony, which aired during CNBC's No. 1 show, "Squawk on the Street," was seen globally and can be re-watched on the NYSE website here.
"We're excited to be where it all starts every day in the financial world," Pitino said. "For [our players], this is so new and it was great for them to be a part of this."
The St. John's and Madison Square Garden contingent were treated to a pre-event reception hosted by Chris Taylor, Vice President of Listings and Services. Pitino and members of the St. John's men's basketball program were greeted with lively cheers from the traders on the NYSE floor. Pitino was joined on the platform by MSG Executive Vice President of Marquee Events and Operations Joel Fisher and Senior Vice President of Sports Properties Sal Federico.
"It is a pleasure to welcome St. John's University and Madison Square Garden to the New York Stock Exchange as we ring today's opening bell to ring in the 2023 NCAA men's basketball season," Taylor said.
After the opening bell ceremony, Pitino entertained interviews from local media and took photos on the trading floor.
St. John's will open the 2023-24 campaign on Tuesday, Nov. 7, as it welcomes Stony Brook to Carnesecca Arena. Tip-off is schedule for 7 p.m.
The Red Storm makes its season-debut at Madison Square Garden on Monday, Nov. 13, when it hosts Michigan at 6:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit RedStormTix.com or call 1-888-GO-STORM.
