QUEENS, N.Y. – After clinching the fourth seed in the BIG EAST Tournament following a 2-2 tie against Creighton, St. John's forward Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau earned his first BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week nod, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Fleuriau Chateau picked up his third weekly honor of the season and second in as many weeks after a two-goal showing against the Bluejays. He is also the team's first offensive player of the week since teammate Antek Sienkiel on Sept. 5, 2022.
The Canadian striker registered his third brace of the season against the Bluejays. The redshirt junior moved into a four-way tie for fifth on St. John's single-season goals leaderboard, tying Medufia Kulego (1996), Shalrie Joseph (2000) and Simone Salinno (2003) with 14 on the year. With two more goals, Fleuriau Chateau will tie Jesse Van Saun (1996) and Huey Ferguson (1993) for third in program history, each posting 16 tallies.
Fleuriau Chateau also jumped into a five-way tie for the NCAA Division I lead, joining fellow BIG EAST competitor Jason Shokalook of Akron, as well as Oral Roberts' Luis Flores, UMass' Alec Hughes and Western Michigan's Dylan Sing. Of the five tied for the national lead, Fleuriau Chateau has the fewest minutes played with 655, averaging one goal every 55 minutes.
The Ottawa, Ontario native is also ranked inside the Division I top five for points, logging 29 in total and ranking fourth.
Fleuriau Chateau and the Red Storm will begin its quest for a 10th BIG EAST Tournament Championship when it takes on fifth-seed UConn at Belson Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 4. The quarterfinal matchup is slated for 6 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
