McLachlan turned away nine shots in two games, including six in a 0-0 draw with Providence
QUEENS, N.Y. – After logging nine saves and a 0.50 goals against average in two games last week, goalkeeper Alec McLachlan earned his first BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honor, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
McLachlan becomes the first Red Storm goalkeeper to earn the weekly accolade since Luka Gavran during the 2021 Fall slate. His honor also marks the second straight week with conference recognition after the sophomore shot-stopper captured an honor roll selection following the team's 1-0 victory over Marquette.
The Stockport, England native went 1-0-1 in two games last week, earning a 2-1 victory over Columbia before registering his third clean sheet of the season with a 0-0 draw against Providence.
After making three saves in the one-goal victory over the Lions, McLachlan stared down 10 shots in total against the Friars on Saturday. McLachlan made a brilliant stop in the 82nd minute on Gevork Diarbian, sprawling out on the breakaway and getting his left hand on the shot to push it wide of the cage to preserve the clean sheet.
Over his last four games, McLachlan has faced 54 shots in total, including 21 on net, while holding the opposition to just two goals over that span.
With a 1-1-2 record in league play, McLachlan boasts second-best marks in the BIG EAST with a .850 save percentage, a 0.75 GAA and two shutouts. His 17 total saves in conference action are also ranked inside the top five, good for fourth.
McLachlan and the Red Storm will return to action on the road, heading to Villanova for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Higgins Soccer Complex.
