QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball team will participate in the 2024 Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship next November at the Baha Mar Convention, Arts & Entertainment Center alongside Baylor, Tennessee and Virginia, as announced by the bdG Sports on Sunday.
In total, the head coaches of the four teams appearing at the fourth-annual event have combined to amass four NCAA championships and more than 2,400 career victories in more than 100 seasons. Two of the four programs have also won a national championship within the last four NCAA Tournaments.
St. John's head coach Rick Pitino, who is the winningest active Division I head coach and ninth winningest all-time, has won 836 games over his 36-year collegiate coaching career. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer has led his teams 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, including seven trips to the Final Four and two National Championships.
St. John's will make its first trip to the Bahamas for an in-season tournament since the 2016 Battle 4 Atlantis. The Johnnies will look to avenge its 0-3 showing during that competition after falling to Michigan State, VCU and Old Dominion.
The trip to the Caribbean will also mark the program's first since the Johnnies visited the Dominican Republic for its 2022 foreign tour. The nine-day international trip featured games against the Dominican Republic's National Team and its U22 National Team, as well as a contest with the GUG All-Stars.
Event dates, schedule of games, travel package details and ticket information will be announced later. For all event information, please visit bahamarhoops.com.
"Baha Mar Hoops continue to mature into one of the most competitive tournaments in the sport of college basketball, and next year's field is further proof," said Brooks Downing, CEO of bdG Sports. "Headlined by four incredible coaches, including Hall of Famer Rick Pitino, and teams who have won two of the last four national championships, this field will be the best yet."
St. John's returns to action today, taking on Utah inside TD Arena at the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on ESPN.
