Joel Soriano Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

St. John’s senior center averaged 14.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in four starts last week
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's senior center Joel Soriano was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Soriano averaged team-highs with 14.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in four starts for the Red Storm last week. The Yonkers, N.Y., native shot 61.1 percent (22-36 FG) from the field. He was a perfect 2-for-2 from distance and buried 13-of-18 attempts (72.2 pct) at the free-throw line.
In the Red Storm's 53-52 victory over 2023 NIT Champion North Texas in the Charleston Classic on Thursday, Soriano finished with an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double. Then after logging 21 points and 10 rebounds against Dayton in the tournament on Friday, Soriano posted a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double in the team's 91-82 win over Utah on Sunday. Soriano began the week with a 15-point, nine-rebound performance against Michigan at MSG.
Soriano's three double-doubles this season lead the BIG EAST and rank third in Division I. He also stands 12th in the nation with 11.2 rebounds per contest and 10th overall with 4.6 offensive boards per game.
St. John's will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Holy Cross inside Carnesecca Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. on FS2.
