Joel Soriano Selected to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

St. John’s senior center tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds in wire-to-wire win over Fordham
QUEENS, N.Y. – After helping lead the St. John's men's basketball team to a wire-to-wire victory over Fordham on Saturday, senior center Joel Soriano earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The Johnnies' big man registered his fifth 20-point performance of the season in the 77-55 victory over the Rams. Soriano shot 9-for-15 from the floor and sank both free throw attempts to finish with 20 points. He also pulled down 10 rebounds, marking his sixth double-double of the season, which leads the BIG EAST and ranks eighth in the nation. The Preseason All-BIG EAST selection also registered three assists and three blocks in 23 minutes of action against the Rams.
Soriano has scored in double figures in all 10 games this season and has had 19 straight games with 10 points or more dating back to last year.
The Red Storm's big man is averaging 18.0 points per game while shooting 67.3 percent from the floor (70-104 FG), good for seventh in NCAA Division I. Soriano also ranks top-10 in the nation in rebounding, averaging 4.6 offensive boards (4th) and 10.5 total rebounds (9th) per game.
The Yonkers, N.Y., native has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times this season, previously earning an honor roll spot on Nov. 20 and Dec. 4.
The Johnnies will open BIG EAST play on Wednesday, facing off against Xavier inside Carnesecca Arena. FS1 will carry the national broadcast with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
