Talented forward started all 110 games during her career with the Panthers
QUEENS, N.Y.- St. John's women's basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella announced the signing of accomplished Pittsburgh transfer Amber Brown on Thursday.
Brown comes from Pittsburgh, where she started all 110 games over her four-year career competing in a tumultuous ACC. In her time there, she averaged 9.0 points per game and 6.2 rebounds and shot 45.6 percent from the floor for the Panthers.
"We are very excited to welcome Amber 'AB' Brown to our basketball family and St. John's University," said Tartamella. "She is a tremendous student of the game and has competed at the highest level of the game. With her skillset and all-around play-making ability we can be flexible playing her at multiple positions."
As a senior in 2022-23, she compiled her best offensive output averaging a career-best 9.6 points per game and finished with 20 or more points in three contests, including an all-time high, 21, at Syracuse on Jan. 5. An efficient scorer from multiple levels, Brown shot a team-high 49.6 percent from the field. A reliable free-throw shooter, Brown converted on 74.8 of her attempts from the charity stripe, which ranked top-10 in the ACC.
In her sophomore and junior seasons, the Monroe, La., native continued to be a pivotal part of the Pittsburgh roster starting all 49 games averaging 8.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per outing. During 2021-22 season, she became the fastest player in 20 years to record 550 points, 450 rebounds and 100 assists at Pittsburgh.
During her rookie campaign in 2019-20, the forward was twice named ACC Rookie of the Week, becoming just the second Panther to ever earn the honor. She ranked ninth in the league rebounding and first among freshman grabbing 7.7 rebounds per game. Brown pulled down 238 rebounds, the fifth-most in a single-season by a Pittsburgh freshman.
"Brown's work ethic on and off the court fits our culture and will play a key role in our success for this upcoming season," Tartamella said.
St. John's is fresh off its first NCAA Tournament win in nine years and concluded the 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 23-9.
