St. John’s Adds Top-30 Prospect Simeon Wilcher to 2023-24 Roster

Consensus Top-10 Point Guard in the Class of 2023 Officially Commits to Red Storm
QUEENS, N.Y. – The Red Storm men's basketball program has officially added highly-touted combo guard Simeon Wilcher on Thursday. The consensus top-30 prospect in the Class of 2023 is committed to play for Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino and will represent Johnnies on the hardwood during the 2023-24 season.
"Simeon is one of the premier high school players and he's a proven winner," said Pitino. "He is a multidimensional combo guard who athletically has all the skills to be a great BIG EAST player."
Wilcher is the highest rated incoming freshman that the St. John's men's basketball program has landed in the past decade. A 6-foot-4 guard from Plainfield, N.J., Wilcher is a top-10 rated point guard and ranks as a top-5 prospect from New Jersey in this year's class. The four-star standout, who starred at national power Roselle Catholic, is also rated as high as the No. 28 overall according to ESPN.
Over his decorated four-year career at Roselle Catholic under head coach David Boff, Wilcher scored more than 1,200 points and dished out nearly 500 assists. The two-time NJ.com First Team All-State selection helped lead Roselle Catholic to back-to-back of NJSIAA Non-Public B State Championships in 2022 and 2023 after going a perfect 15-0 in the state tournament.
As a senior this past season, Wilcher averaged 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals helping Roselle Catholic to its second consecutive state title. He scored double figures in 20 of 25 appearances, including seven 20-plus point outings. The 2023 NJ.com All-State First Team selection helped lead Roselle Catholic to the semifinals of the 2023 State Champions Invitational in Washington, D.C., after scoring 29 points and dishing out five assists in a win over Curtis High School (Washington).
Wilcher was named the 2022 NJ.com Player of the Year after leading Roselle Catholic to its first of two-straight state championships. He averaged 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.0 steals per contest in 30 appearances. Wilcher scored double figures 28 times that season, including nine games where he posted 20 or more points.
Wilcher's sensational junior campaign also featured six double-doubles and a triple-double, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to go with three blocks against Plainview on Jan. 4, 2022. During Roselle Catholic's state title run, Wilcher went for back-to-back 22-point performances to help lift his team to a semifinal win over Bergen Catholic and a victory over Camden in the championship game.
During his breakout sophomore campaign at Roselle Catholic, Wilcher averaged 12.4 points, 5.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals. He scored double figures 10 times with a pair of 20-point outings and went for a 25-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist triple-double in a victory over St. Joseph's on Jan. 28, 2021. As a freshman in 2019-20, Wilcher posted 5.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists over 24 games.
On the AAU circuit, Wilcher shined last summer for the City Rocks. Wilcher was named the Most Valuable Player of the Peach Jam Pool Play after a stellar performance over five games, including a 30-point effort in the opening round. He finished the Nike EYBL Peach Jam averaging 17.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
