The Red Storm raised funds to support its 17 Division I programs on and off the field of play
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Athletics hosted its third annual Johnnies Golf Classic on Monday, raising funds in support the Red Storm's 17 Division I sport programs.
Red Storm coaches and staff were joined by more than 120 esteemed alumni and supporters of the university for breakfast, a day on the links at the Village Club at Sands Point on the North Shore of Long Island before a cocktail hour and dinner reception at the Guggenheim Mansion.
Attendees were welcomed by evening emcee Denise Gonzalez before Director of Athletics Mike Cragg and St. John's University President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., offered their appreciation and thanks to those in attendance for their continued support of St. John's Athletics.
"It's an exciting time in college athletics," Cragg said to the alumni and supporters in attendance. "We have a lot of great things going on at St. John's and all of that is because of what you do in supporting our student-athletes and athletic department. It is greatly appreciated."
"Our coaches have the most direct impact on our student-athletes," said Shanley. "While they are teaching them to play well and work together, they are also teaching them how to be successful in life. That is the main value of athletics at St. John's."
In total, the 2023 edition of the Johnnies Classic helped raise over $95,000 to support the academic and athletic success of all 17 St. John's athletic programs. To make a contribution to the Red & White Club click here.
