St. John’s Basketball announces Quavo will perform at annual celebration inside Carnesecca Arena marking the beginning of the 2024-25 season
QUEENS, N.Y. – Quavo, best known for his work with the iconic rap group Migos, will headline the St. John's Basketball programs' annual Red Storm Tip-Off event on Friday, October 18 inside Carnesecca Arena.
Â
Red Storm Tip-Off, which signals the unofficial start of the upcoming men's and women's basketball campaigns, will welcome the Georgia native for a live performance that caps off an action-packed night in Queens.
Â
Quavo has been featured on several top 10 hits with artists ranging from Post Malone, Justin Bieber, DJ Khaled, Madonna, Young Thug and Travis Scott. His group Migos hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts and broke the record formerly held by The Beatles by landing 14 songs on the Hot 100 in 2018. As an actor, Quavo has appeared in shows such as Donald Glover's "Atlanta," "Ballers," "Black-ish," the film, "Savage Salvation" alongside Robert De Niro and, recently in, "Praise This."
Â
Doors to the event will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are free. The Carnesecca Arena Ticket Office will open at 9 a.m. on October 18 for St. John's students. Student season ticket holders receive the benefit of having their Red Storm Tip-Off ticket automatically deposited into their online account. Beginning at 4 p.m., the Ticket Office will welcome alumni and the general public to pick up tickets if available.
Â
St. John's men's basketball Head Coach and Naismith Hall of Famer Rick Pitino enters his second season in Queens and 37th season as a Division I coach. Fresh off a 20-win campaign a season ago, Pitino led the Johnnies to a BIG EAST semifinal appearance for the first time since 2000 with its 91-72 win over eventual NIT Champion Seton Hall.
Â
St. John's women's basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella enters his 13th season at the helm. On the heels of back-to-back postseason berths, the program's all-time winningest coach has led the Red Storm to appearances in the 2023 NCAA Tournament and 2024 Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT).
