Archer becomes the fourth St. John’s player to sign a pro contract in the last two years
QUEENS, N.Y.– St. John's women's basketball standout Jillian Archer is set to continue her career in the professional ranks after signing a contract with the Willetton Tigers in Australia.
The 2023-24 All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection will join the Tigers in Perth, Australia and compete in the National Basketball League One West.
Archer becomes the fourth player over the last two seasons to play professionally overseas coming out of St. John's. Under the direction of Head Coach Joe Tartamella, 14 former Johnnies have signed professional contracts and four have been drafted into the WNBA.
The Santa Monica, Calif., native was a staple of the Red Storm's frontcourt over the last two seasons. After arriving from Georgetown prior to the 2022-23 campaign, the forward started 64 of 65 possible games.
During her final season, the graduate student averaged a career-best 11.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while helping to guide the Red Storm to a third-place BIG EAST finish. Archer set the new single-season program record for field goal percentage after shooting 59.8 percent (143-239) from the floor.
Archer was the only player in the league to rank top-20 in scoring (19th at 11.3), top-10 in rebounding (8th at 7.6), top-3 in field goal percentage (1st at 59.8) and top-3 in blocks (3rd at 1.6). She finished the year with nine double-doubles and scored 10 or more points in 23 contests.
Following a strong final campaign, Archer was recognized as an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention choice on March 7 and was twice named to the league's weekly honor roll.
In 2022-23, Archer played at a pivotal role in getting the Johnnies back to the NCAA Tournament. She started 31 games at the power forward position and averaged 7.2 points and 7.7 boards per game.
Prior to arriving at St. John's, Archer spent two seasons at Georgetown and her freshman year at USC. The forward accumulated 957 points, 824 rebounds and 109 blocks over the course of her collegiate career.
