Women’s Basketball to Celebrate 50th Anniversary Season

Red Storm to celebrate decorated history during the 2024-25 campaign
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's Women's Basketball program will celebrate its 50th anniversary this coming year in 2024-25.
The program was established 1974-75 and played its first-ever varsity game in a 53-44 win at Alumni Hall over Adelphi on Nov. 26, 1974.
Over the years, the program has grown immensely compiling 32 winning seasons and 831 victories. Since the BIG EAST Conference introduced women's basketball in 1983, the Johnnies have taken home four conference tournament titles (1983, '84, '88, 2016). In the last 40 years The Red Storm have been to 11 NCAA Tournaments and 18 total national postseason tournaments in that span.
St. John's has a proven track record of sending players to the pros as four student-athletes have been drafted into the WNBA in the last 11 years. Dozens of players have gone onto to play professionally overseas, including 15 players under current Head Coach Joe Tartamella.
The 2024-25 schedule and additional information about the 50th anniversary season will be announced at a later date.
