St. John’s Releases 2023-24 Annual Report

Red Storm Athletics celebrates accomplishments of sports programs and student-
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's Athletic Department has released its 2023-24 annual report, celebrating the accomplishments of the Red Storm's 17 varsity athletic programs and 300-plus student-athletes over the past year.
The annual report showcases the athletic, academic and personal achievements of St. John's student-athletes during the academic year. Among the many highlights featured, the annual report details the baseball team's 10th BIG EAST Championship and 38th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the fencing team's 31st-consecutive top-seven finish nationally.
Two individuals represented the Johnnies on the national stage qualifying for their respective NCAA Championships. Men's golfer Peicheng Chen competed at the NCAA Regionals at the University of Texas Golf Club after winning the individual BIG EAST Championship in April. Track and field runner Nora Haugen made her first trip to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., after setting a St. John's record in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:02.68 at the NCAA East Regional.
In addition, the annual report celebrates the department's four BIG EAST Major Award winners – Jessica Garziano (Women's Soccer Midfielder of the Year), Armando Sotelo (Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year), Baseball and Volleyball Coaching Staffs of the Year. Thirty-one Johnnies were also named All-BIG EAST selections during the 2023-24 academic year.
St. John's student-athletes flourished in the classroom as well, finishing with a cumulative grade point average of 3.51. The Red Storm had 226 student-athletes named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, marking the sixth straight year of over 200 Johnnies on the list. In addition, the baseball and women's golf teams were each bestowed with the BIG EAST Team Excellence Award for carrying the conference's highest team grade point average in their respective sports. Volleyball's Giorgia Walther was also individually recognized with the BIG EAST Sport Excellence Award, recognizing the highest-achieving student-athlete in academic performance, athletic accolade and community service for each sport.
Along with the Red Storm's athletic and academic success, the annual report also details the department's many efforts in the community. St. John's student-athletes dedicated more than 2,200 hours to community service projects while the Athletics Council on Community, Culture and Social Justice (CCCSJ) continued to facilitate education and sponsor important initiatives such as Johnnies United Week.
The annual report also shares a glimpse into the Red Storm's UNLIMITED program, which continues to partner with Influencer, The Brandr Group (TBG), Boardroom and most recently Opendorse, helping increase NIL opportunities available to St. John's student-athletes.
