To begin the first frame, UConn held an early three-point advantage, but the Johnnies quickly responded to knot the score at 8-8. At the media timeout, the Huskies led 15-13, but the Red Storm rallied to tie the score at 16-16. The home team's lead bubbled to as many as five at 22-17, but St. John's erased their third deficit of three or more and tied the frame at 22-22. UConn went on to win 25-23.
The Huskies jumped out to an early 10-4 start in the second stanza. St. John's clawed its way back to 12-12, and after a successful coaches' challenge from Head Coach Joanne Persico, the visitors took the lead, 13-12. The two teams would trade points to 18-18 before a Barbara Costa dos Santos block gave the visitors the lead, 19-18. At 22-22, Jones fired a kill and tooled a block to trigger set point. Martina Ghezzi tooled a block of her own as the Johnnies took the stanza, 25-22, to tie the match at one set apiece.
The third set featured another series of deadlocks to 7-7, but the visitors engineered a 3-0 run to force a UConn timeout at 10-7. The middle part of the set saw the Huskies come back to take a three-point lead at 18-15. The hosts held on to take the set, 25-20.
Much like the second frame, the fourth started with a UConn 10-4 run. The advantage would bubble to as many as eight at 18-10, but the Johnnies would not go down quietly as they cut into the lead, 22-18. The Huskies held on to take the set, 25-19, and won the match, 3-1.
