St. John’s Welcomes Butler for Senior Night

Red Storm to honor eight seniors prior to BIG EAST finale
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's soccer team (8-5-3, 3-3-1 BIG EAST) will host Butler (5-10-1, 2-4-1 BIG EAST) for Senior Night at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium at 7 p.m.
Prior to the game, the St. John's men's soccer program will honor eight seniors- Antonio Biggs, Ank Nibogora, Bjorn Nikolajewski, Jeremy Sharp, Godwin Partey, Alec McLachlan, Julian Jakopovic and Markus Pusztahegyi and their families will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony beginning at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Friday's contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with Ralph Bednarczyk on the call from Queens. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's is fresh off a 3-1 victory last Saturday at Villanova. The Red Storm got on the board early courtesy of an own goal in the sixth minute. In the second half, Biggs, after missing the previous four matches due to injury, tallied a goal of a deflection in the 47thminute with assists from Guilherme Gomes and Sharp. Gabe Smyth tallied the final goal to propel the Johnnies to a three-goal advantage. Villanova tacked on a goal but the deficit was too great as the Red Storm held on for a pivotal road victory. The Red Storm are 6-0-0 when scoring first this season.
Guilherme Gomes tacked a pair of assists for the first multi-helper contest by a St. John's player this season. The rookie phenom was tallied the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the third time this season on Monday. The midfielder paces the Red Storm in points in goals (6), points (14), shots (24) and shots on target (14).
Heading into Friday's final BIG EAST contest, the Red Storm can tie on points with a win for the final conference tournament playoff spot but can not qualify for the 2025 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Tournament due to tiebreakers. The Johnnies check in at No. 35 in the RPI and boast a resume with a victory over then-No. 19 Akron and a pair of ties against teams ranked inside the top-five in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll in then-No. 5 Wake Forest and then-No. 2 Marshall.

The Johnnies lead the all-time series over the Bulldogs 9-4-2 and hold a 3-1-1 advantage in contests played in Queens. In last year's meeting, Augustine Boadi and Nigel Griffith jumpstarted a second half comeback as the Red Storm took down Butler, 2-1, on Oct. 4, 2024 to earn the 500th victory in the program's history.
Butler enters the match seek its first victory since Oct. 11 when it outlasted Marquette, 2-1. Friday's contest marks the Bulldogs second consecutive match in the Northeast after falling at UConn, 2-0, on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are led by Aiden Benitez, who paces Butler in goals scored (4), assists (4) and points (12).
Following Friday night's BIG EAST finale, the Red Storm will close the regular season against the City College of New York (CCNY) at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium. The contest originally scheduled for 7 p.m. has been moved up to a 4 p.m. start time.
