The Red Storm notched a program-record 10 goals in the game

QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's soccer team (9-5-4, 3-3-2 BIG EAST) closed out the 2025 regular season in historic fashion, earning a dominant 10-0 victory over City College of New York (2-11-6, 2-3-2 CUNYAC) on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium. The 10 goals marked the most in a single match in program history, surpassing the previous record set in a 9-0 decision against Manhattan on Sept. 13, 1995.

Six different Johnnies found the back of the net, as Jad Benjelloun and Xavi Abeijón each tallied braces to lead the scoring effort. Julian Jakopovic finished with a pair of assists, while goalkeeper Alec McLachlan made three saves to secure the clean sheet. As a unit, St. John's outshot CCNY, 35-8, including a commanding 20 shots on frame. The Johnnies
tallied seven of their 10 goals in the second half.

The Red Storm broke through in the 27th minute when Benjelloun converted from the penalty spot following a VAR review. Just one minute later, Abeijón doubled the lead with help from Jakopovic and Gabin Thomelier. Benjelloun's second penalty of the night came in the 41st minute, sending St. John's into halftime ahead by three while holding the Beavers to just three first-half shots.

St. John's continued its relentless attack to open the second half. In the 50th minute, Igor Goncalves fired a low strike into the right side of the net for his first goal of the year. Seven minutes later, Abeijón completed his brace off another setup from Jakopovic to make it 5-0.

Over the final 25 minutes, Jayden Montgomery, Markus Pusztahegyi and Godwin Partey each recorded their first collegiate goals. Thomelier and Partey added the ninth and tenth goals in the closing moments to cap off the record-setting performance.

With the regular season now complete, St. John's will learn its postseason fate when the field for the 2025 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament is announced on Nov. 17.
