St. John’s men’s basketball point guard logged a pair of double-doubles last week
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2025) – St. John's men's basketball guard Kadary Richmond was named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA) Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Richmond averaged 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.0 steals in 38.5 minutes of action, turning in a pair of double-double efforts against Villanova and No. 24/21 Creighton to be named the top player amongst the 21 Tri-State area schools.
The point guard recorded 17 points, a season-high 10 assists and five boards in Wednesday's setback at Villanova, 73-71. The 10-helper performance marked Richmond's first at St. John's and fifth of his collegiate career.
On Sunday, the Seton Hall transfer delivered a stellar performance to help guide the Red Storm to its third ranked win in 12 days over No. 24/21 Creighton, 79-73. Richmond helped guide the Johnnies back from an early 10-point deficit as they earned their 13th BIG EAST win of the season. The graduate student finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in a sold-out Madison Square Garden.
On the year, Richmond has started 25 of 26 games logging 12.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game. The New York City product ranks third in the league in steals (2.0) and sixth in assists (5.1) per contest.
Richmond was named the MBWA Player of the Week for the third time in his career and the first time while at St. John's.
The Red Storm will be back in action on Wednesday at DePaul for a 9 p.m. ET tip in the Windy City on FS1.
