Red Storm reach top-five in coaches’ poll for the first time since March 31, 1999
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's men's basketball team was ranked for the eighth consecutive week checking in at No. 6 in the Associated Press (AP) poll and moved up one spot to No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches' poll.
The Red Storm have been ranked for eighth straight weeks dating back to Jan. 20, its longest stretch since the 1998-99 season. The Johnnies reached the top-five in the Coaches' Poll for the first time since the final poll of the 1998-99 season, when St. John's advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
The St. John's men's basketball program wrapped up a historic regular season, tying a program record with 27 wins, earning 18 BIG EAST victories tying for the most in the conference's history and claiming its first outright BIG EAST Regular Season Championship in 40 years. The Johnnies won 10-straight league games, defeated four nationally ranked opponents and went an undefeated 18-0 at home for the first time since 1931-32.
St. John's will enter the BIG EAST Tournament as the top-seed and face the winner of eighth-seeded Providence and ninth-seeded Butler in the quarterfinal round on Thursday at noon on Peacock.
