Alves posted season-best efforts in the discus and shot put last weekend
NEW YORK – After earning two top-three efforts in the shot put and discus last weekend, Jamora Alves was named the BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The honor marks the third BIG EAST weekly award of Alves' career and the second of the 2024-25 indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. The Grenada native was previously tabbed as the conference's field athlete of the week on Jan. 28, 2025, and March 29, 2023.
Alves enjoyed a successful weekend at USF's South Florida Invitational at the USF Track & Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla., posting a second-place effort in the shot put and a third-place mark in the discus.
In the shot put, the junior rang up a season-best throw of 15.43 meters for a silver medal in the event. Later in the day, the Grenada native provided a season-record launch of 52.07 meters for a bronze medal in the discus. Both throws put Alves on the NCAA Regional lists in the shot put and discus.
So far this outdoor season, the standout has earned first-place finishes in the shot put at The Big Hurt and in the discus at the Outdoor Metropolitan Championships.
Alves and the Red Storm will return to action on Friday when the squad takes part in the UConn Northeast Challenge in Storrs, Conn.
